Bad Breath Cure Ideas

Everybody has at least one friend who has the embarrassing condition known as halitosis or bad breath. When you spoke to your friend and took a whiff of that bad odor, you most likely prayed that that person would find a bad breath cure immediately.

I am pretty sure that you never want to be in the same situation so you probably want to know what the causes of bad breath are. Well, the answer to this question is anaerobic sulfur producing bacteria. The literal meaning of the word anaerobic is without oxygen. This means that the bacteria will thrive in locations where there is a lack of oxygen. Because of this, the bacteria are not found on the surface of your tongue. Instead, they are located between your tongue fibers.

Every person has these type of bacteria in his or her mouth. Unfortunately, you cannot get rid of these bad breath-causing bacteria because they serve an important function in the human body. They break down proteins found in food which aids in the digestive process. However, situations occur where the bacteria break down the proteins too quickly which will result in the release of volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs). These compounds can leave a nasty taste in your mouth and give you smelly breath.

Post nasal drip can also be what causes bad breath. Post nasal drip can supply your tongue and throat with plenty of mucus and phlegm. Troubles occur because mucus and phlegm consist of proteins which bacteria can extract odorous VSCs from. Since getting rid of these bad breath-causing bacteria is out of the question, the only bad breath cure is to slow down the production of VSCs.

You should not put yourself in situations which will aggravate your halitosis if you want to slow down the production of VSCs. Having a dry mouth can worsen your halitosis and is a situation that you should avoid. A dry mouth will inhibit the production of saliva. Saliva contains oxygen so a reduction in the saliva flow will foster the growth of anaerobic bacteria and increase the production of odorous sulfur.

In this situation, an effective cure for bad breath would be to drink at least eight glasses of water each day. If you want to avoid a dry mouth, you should also avoid taking antihistamines or drinking beverages, such as beer or wine, that contain alcohol because they can dry out your mouth really quickly. You should also refrain from taking any of the mouthwashes on the market that contain alcohol.

Many foods are known to cause bad breath so simply avoiding them is a bad breath cure that anyone can easily implement. Foods that are high in protein can definitely wreck your breath so this means you should consider replacing the fish, chicken, beef, etc. in your diet with vegetables and fruits.

Many dairy products, such as cheese, milk, and ice cream, are also packed with proteins that the bacteria can just feast on. People who are lactose intolerant should especially avoid dairy foods because they have problems digesting these products. This will allow bacteria to feast on the protein they contain even longer which will make your breath smell even worse.

As this article has detailed, many causes of bad breath exist. This article also gave some useful bad breath cure tips. You can lower your chances of having problems with your breath by preventing your mouth from getting too dry. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day can stop the occurrence of a dry mouth.

Using antihistamines or drinking alcohol can dry out your mouth. Therefore, you should refrain from consuming beer, wine, and any mouthwashes that contain alcohol.

If you refrain from consuming foods that contain a lot of protein, you will do your breath a big favor. Among the foods that you should avoid include beef, fish, chicken, and dairy products such as cheese, milk, and ice cream. With full knowledge of what causes bad breath and what things to avoid you should be able to make sure that you or anyone close to you will never have to look for a bad breath cure.
