Bad Breath Remedy: Ways To Treat Bad Breath Or Halitosis
By James Axelorr | October 13, 2009
Bad Breath can be a very embarrassing problem when dealing with the general public, and in relationships with friends, family, business associates, and especially in personal relationships. It is something that affects over 90 million people worldwide. Bad Breath, also known as halitosis, has been affecting people for a very long time. Many people surprisingly are not even aware that they have bad breath.
What causes bad breath? Often, we think of “bad breath” when someone eats a meal with a lot of garlic and onions or other pungent foods or spices with strong odors. These temporary “cases” are not true bad breath, or halitosis, which is caused by bacterial buildup releasing amino acids after they break down proteins. The amino acids that cause the foul smells are hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan. These buildups can, in part, be caused from improper flossing and teeth brushing.
On occasion, though, medical conditions can be the root of the problem, such as gastrointestinal disturbances, postnasal drip, liver or kidney problems, diabetes, an infection in the respiratory tract, or chronic sinusitis or bronchitis.
Some ways to remedy bad breath: As is apparent, good dental hygiene is very important. Proper flossing and teeth brushing are key parts to that. Keep hydrated with water, chew gum, and eat raw vegetables to keep a good flow of saliva to prevent dry mouth. Also, avoid a lot of dairy, as this can cause a mucous buildup. Another good tip is tongue scraping because this helps reduce excess bacteria.
When bad breath persists, though, you may have to get professional help to succeed in your efforts to cure bad breath. There are products and advanced remedies on the market that can help you in your quest.
