Why do I have bad breath? Many people who are notorious offenders and not aware that most of it comes from the food they eat. Yes, bad breath is a result of eating the wrong things. It comes in several ways. First is the bacteria in your mouth. The other is through your digestive system. Both offend others.
Generally the cause of bad breath comes from your mouth. As the food you ate yesterday begins to decay, it gives bacteria a great place to grow. This bacteria take those little pockets of food hidden in your mouth and turns them into odor making compounds. One well known one is sulfur.
This sulfur compound then defiles any air passing through the mouth and results in a bad smell. You might be surprised to know that in a lot of cases, dairy produces are the blame for bad breath. The dairy produce contains proteins that break down into ammo acids that then change to sulfur.
Food with strong smells also are a leading cause of foul breath. Things like onions and garlic are well known to produce odors. What happens is that the digestive system breaks these down and sends them through the bloodstream. When these compounds hit the lungs the smell comes out.
The basic idea is that the smell mixes with all the air you are moving in and out of your lungs, and as the air moves you move the odor up and out. The challenge here is a longer term project. If it is just in your mouth, the solution is a quick brushing and you are good. When the problem is from food in the digestive tract it takes time to wash it out.
Too many proteins also have a troubling effect. If not enough carbohydrates are present, then the body uses a process that produces energy with protein that has a nasty side effect. This is usually avoided by the gluten present.
The effect is producing ketones. These are chemicals that cause nasty breath. These again are released through the lungs. They smell nasty and so does a person’s breath who has them.
Because food is such a big factor in bad breath, avoid those foods that aggravate the condition. A good brushing following eating will also be a big help so take a minute and let those pearls shine. Simple solutions are available in the form of gum and mints to cover for this problem. The best solution, however, is to control your garlic craving and only do it when you are not around people. This includes your spouse. Never take bad breath on a date. If you are planning the outing, avoid menu items that contain red flag items.
