How To Treat Bad Breath - Food And Oral Hygiene

Bad breath is also known as halitosis and it can be caused from not following good oral hygiene, the foods you eat and are symptoms of other health problems. Many times there are many lifestyle habits that should be avoided that can cause bad breath.
It is in the mouth that food is broken down. Foods that contain strong odors and aromas actually release these aromas from the lungs as they travel through the blood and then are released in the lungs.
When you brush your teeth you dislodge and get rid of particles of food that may be still in your mouth as well as bacteria that grow on the tongue teeth and sides of the mouth. These bacteria cause bad breath and if it is not removed by brushing you will constantly have bad breath. Using tobacco based products and smoking will also permanently give you bad breath.
When you brush your teeth you get rid of food that may be lodged between the teeth and the gums. If this food is not removed then it can break down and be used as food by bacteria. This bacteria then can produce smells which create bad breath. Also smoking and using tobacco products will cause bad breath and you will need to stop using these products to get rid of your bad breath.
Some health issues that can cause bad breath include post nasal drip, pneumonia, kidney problems, chronic acid reflux, liver problems, diabetes, bronchitis, chronic sinus infections, dry mouth, poorly fitted dental equipment or appliances, dental caries, yeast infections and gum disease.
There may also be specific foods that are giving you bad breath. If you keep a log of what you eat you may be able to determine which foods are making your bad breath worse. You also can let your dentist see the list as then your dentist may be able to make some recommendations about avoiding certain foods.
